The LPGA Tour confirmed her decision to retire. Thompson, now 29, has been a key player in women’s golf since she turned professional at 15 in 2011. She became the youngest winner of an LPGA event by winning the Navistar Classic at 16.

Thompson has won 11 LPGA titles, including a major championship at the 2014 Chevron Championship. In October 2023, she made headlines by becoming the seventh woman to play in a PGA Tour event. She scored 73-69 at the Shriners Children’s Open but missed the cut by two strokes.

Thompson has not yet explained why she is retiring. She is set to discuss her decision in a news conference on Tuesday at 2:30 pm EDT at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.
