Formula 1 teams have introduced special rear wings designed for high downforce at the Monaco Grand Prix. Everyone is watching to see how Ferrari and McLaren aim to challenge Red Bull, which has been dominant so far.
Recently, McLaren’s Lando Norris won his first race in Miami and performed well in Imola, indicating they are catching up to Red Bull. Now, as they head to Monaco, all teams have adapted their cars with high-downforce rear wings that suit the circuit’s demands.
Ferrari has updated their rear wing, building on changes from the Imola race. Their new design has a flatter surface with a different endplate, aiming to increase downforce. This is the first time this season Ferrari has made significant changes to their rear wing for more downforce, although they had a similar unused option in Suzuka. They’ve also added small winglets to boost downforce further.
The new rear wing from McLaren has been specifically tuned for strong downforce courses like Monaco, and the beam wing has been altered to improve overall efficiency. Other races ought to find this configuration beneficial as well.
Red Bull has also modified their rear and beam wings to increase downforce with a greater chord and camber.
Aston Martin has taken a different approach with a very aggressive high-downforce wing, which is specifically tailored for Monaco, accepting a drop in aerodynamic efficiency for better performance on this particular track.
